How to Cleanse your Crystals and Gems

Cleansing refers to the practice of clearing accumulated negative energy from crystals or gems to restore their natural vibrations and enhance their healing properties.  This can be done through various methods such as:

  1. Smudging: Using sage, palo santo or other sacred herbs to pass smoke over the crystals.

  2. Water: Rinsing crystals under running water, although this method is not suitable for all crystals (those that are water-soluble).

  3. Salt: Submerging crystals in salt (like sea salt) or placing them on a salt bed. However, be gentle as this can damage some stones.

  4. Moonlight or Sunlight: Charging crystals by placing them under the moonlight or sunlight. Be aware though, some stones may fade under direct sunlight.

  5. Sound: Using sound frequencies (singing bowls, tingsha bells or tuning forks) to vibrate the crystals and clear negative energy.

  6. Earth: Burying crystals in the earth to allow them to reconnect with natural energies.

Cleansing should be done periodically to maintain the effectiveness of the crystals in energy work, meditation, or healing practices.

Crystal and Gem Care

When caring for crystals and Gems there are a few things you should avoid to ensure their energy stays balanced and they remain in good condition:

  1. Exposing them to harsh chemicals: Cleaning products or chemicals can damage crystals or alter their appearance. Stick to gentle methods like using a damp cloth or mild soap and water when cleaning them.

  2. Direct sunlight for extended periods: Some crystals, like amethyst or fluorite can fade or become discolored if exposed to direct sunlight for too long. Keep them in a shaded spot if you want to avoid this.

  3. Not cleaning or charging them regularly: Crystals can absorb negative energy, so it’s important to cleanse and recharge them. You can use methods like placing them under moonlight, using sound frequencies or running them through smoke from sage or palo santo.

  4. Dropping or knocking them: Crystals can be fragile, especially those like selenite or calcite. Dropping them or knocking them against hard surfaces can cause chips or cracks.

  5. Leaving them in areas with lots of negative energy: If you want your crystals to work effectively, avoid placing them in environments where there is constant negativity, like near arguments or stressful situations.

  6. Overloading them with intentions: While it’s common to set intentions with crystals, it’s important not to overwhelm them by expecting too much. Be patient and trust the process without putting too much pressure on the crystal.

Follow these simple rules and your crystals will remain beautiful and continue to serve you well.
